The defendants, who only spoke to confirm their name, address, date of birth and nationality, were all remanded in custody and are due to appear at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday.

Magistrates agreed to a three-month closure order submitted by Lancashire Police relating to RI Tyres – owned by Suleman and close to where Aya was shot.

Emergency services were scrambled to King Street in Blackburn just after 3pm on Sunday.

Detectives said two shots were fired from a Toyota Avensis car with the first bullet hitting a building and the second killing the University of Salford law student as she walked past.

Paramedics battled to save Aya, a Children's Society charity volunteer, whose family had moved to Britain from Lebanon.

She was taken to hospital but died a short while later.
